CONCEPT

Messy packrat keeps careful count of everything but her personal life.

POWERS

unnoticeability
While she is not capable of being properly invisible, she can perform minor memory modification on the people around her which causes them to not question her presence or even her actions.

Her control over the effect of the memory manipulation is limited to people's perception of her; for example, she can cause her officemates to think either "Shannon was here all day and working diligently" or "someone was taking things out of the break room fridge, but I don't remember who or why". She could also walk into places she is not allowed to be and nobody will stop her, although she'd still show up on any security footage, etc.

She has largely sworn off using this power after her heavy reliance on this ability to avoid consequences at work and in social situations caused her ex-wife to file for divorce.

pocket space
She has an extradimensional space accessible only by her in which she can store objects. There is currently a TON of stuff in there; she's not sure exactly how much is in there, but the space is reaching its upper bound and she now needs to take things out to put more things in. She needs to remember "where" she put something in order to fetch it, but can also grab random things. Living things will not go into the pocket dimension, and she's never risked putting in anything that might rot or crumble or otherwise dirty the space.

PERSONALITY

♟️ Extremely intelligent with a natural aptitude for understanding complex subjects. She's always excelled in math and science, although she oftentimes flunked her courses in high school due to general disinterest in class, lack of effort, and frequent truancy. The fact that she became a straight-A student in college was 50% personal growth and 50% abuse of her liminal powers to make her professors think she was a much more engaged student in class than she ever actually was.

♟️ Not particularly "driven" or "ambitious". She can be very productive when it suits her interests, but those are fleeting. She likes nice things, having fun, and being creatively fulfilled. She doesn't like busywork or doing things just because she's expected to do them, which causes her to struggle in school and work environments (especially now that she's not memory modifying her coworkers to think she's the best employee on Earth anymore). Her job at Enodia is personally challenging enough to her to hold her interest right now, but she fears she may lose that drive eventually.

♟️ Pathologically dishonest, even when it doesn't matter. A true victim of middle child syndrome, she never felt like she had the most attention when she was growing up, a problem only exacerbated by her time at wilderness camp. She loves being the center of attention, but doesn't think she's interesting or funny or pretty enough to hold that attention naturally, so she just makes things up to get eyes on her. It's pretty easy to surmise she does this just by interacting with her, but she's also fairly shameless about it and will just brush it off if someone calls her out.

♟️ Obsessed with people. A little bit of an ambivert that doesn't do well in large groups, but is incredibly co-dependent on her close friends and romantic partners. She forms attachments quickly, suffers from boughts of jealousy even in nonromantic relationships, and retains information about other people easily. Also a little bit of a cybersleuth, and is constantly sticking her nose in other people's business.

♟️ A puzzle-solver. She loves to put pieces together to form a bigger picture, be it with games or her "investigations" or her interpersonal relationships or her work as a programmer. Presenting her with a problem that needs solving is a surefire way to get her invested in a task, and she's relentless about it once she decides she's going to figure it out.

APPEARANCE

Thoroughly average in height and build. 5'5". Dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, freckled skin. Has an extensive wardrobe and curates several meticulous style aesthetics for herself which she rotates through seasonally. Currently on a sort of vintage 70s/80s kick.

HISTORY

The daughter of a pair of upper-middle class software engineers who made their money in the dotcom boom, Shannon lead a fairly easy childhood. Although her family was well-off, they were never particularly close, and her behavioral issues in her childhood made her feel like the perpetual unfavorite amongst her siblings. Her sister is a lawyer; her brother is a musical prodigy. From a young age, she showed both aptitude and interest in following in her parents footsteps, although she suffered some emotional resistance against the idea.

High school brought with it a slew of behavioral issues which her parents (who were constantly busy running their business and a little absent in her life) could not figure out how to rectify on their own. They grounded her; she sneaked out. They got stricter; she found ways to circumnavigate their punishments. Things came to a head when her school called her parents in about her habitual truancy. Desperate for a solution, they shipped her off to a residential "school" for troubled teens when she was sixteen.

Like most of the students, she hated it there. Though she eventually learned to fall in line when the adults were around, she was a constant menace to the other girls and had no friends. She was also there a lot longer than most of the other kids seemed to be; she felt abandoned by her parents and lost her motivation to "graduate" out of the program even though it would mean she'd get to go home.

She developed her liminal abilities while she was still at camp, and for a little while she didn't notice anything was happening. People were ignoring her, but not in the usual way. They were ignoring her completely, even if she broke the rules or misbehaved. This suited her just fine for awhile, but when she skinned a knee and realized what had happened, she cashed in on her ticket out and headed to a liminal academy for her last few months of high school.

After she graduated, she got accepted into a four-year university for computer science. She met her wife-to-be Drew Kaczmarek her first day on campus; they got married a month later to get into family housing and secure student loans independently from her parents (who have never properly cut her off; she's cut ties with them more than they've cut ties with her, but she doesn't want their money). Even though it was a marriage of convenience at first, they both agreed that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and Shannon really thought they would.

She was hired to a major company straight out of school, and had two years of what she thought was the perfect life. Then, earlier this year, her relationship went up in flames thanks to her habitual use of her memory modification powers (gaslight gatekeep girlboss), her wife left her, and she applied to Enodia for a change of pace.

NOTES

Has a pair of ferrets named Pepperjack and Scrunchie. Lost the show ferret breeding empire in the divorce.
